ITMT 411, ‘What’s Your Number?’

“ITMT 411” as an innovative text messaging intervention that will direct, engage and inform Young Black Men who have sex with men (YAAMSM) 18-29 through texting. ITMT has identified the Ez Texting Group SMS Software as the program best suited for this intervention.
ITMT 411 offers daily, weekly and monthly resources for YAAMSM in Los Angeles County. ITMT 411 features the following:

  • HIV/AIDS related educational updates.
  • Acts as a clearing center for HIV/AIDS testing locations to include
    mobile testing sites and times.
  • Offers a 24 hour response to HIV/AIDS/ STD specific questions and resource queries.
    ITMT411 Provides weekly updates for ITMT’s two weekly open support groups; Kick Back and NIA Project and other local and national resources.

 
     
 
   

The NIA (Purpose) Project
NIA mean Purpose in Swahili, ‘Our Purpose Is To Prevent The Spread Of HIV’

In The Meantime’s NIA (Purpose) Prevention Program targets Black gay, SGL, and bisexual men up to 24 years of age living in Los Angeles County with a focus on South Los Angeles. The intervention consists of club/ venue based and social network Outreach to young Black men. Our focus is to educate and inform men about the facts of HIV/AIDS and other STDS while recruiting men to participate in 3 closed sessions of the NIA (Power Groups). Each session is design to last 11/2 to 2 hours and addresses a variety of issues that directly impact the lives of young Black gay, SGL, and bisexual men living in Los Angeles County.

 
 

Wellness for Life Black Men’s Health Conference

Wellness for Life is one of the longest standing Wellness Conference in the world designed to meet the wellness needs of Black gay, SGL, and bisexual men both locally and nationally. This one day annual conference brings together men from all walks of life together with some of our brightest and most relevant heath care providers. This interactive conference experience concludes with a Los Angeles style catered lunch and entertainment.


 
 
 

Umoja (Unity) Retreat

Umoja means Unity in Swahilli. This 3 day, two night Unity retreat
is one of the longest standing all black gay male retreat experiences in the world. For the past 9 years Black gay, sgl, and bisexual men from all over Los Angeles are swept away into the canyons of Southern California for a life transforming experience among nature and brotherhood.
 


 
 
     
 


 

Mylife Mystyle, Healthy Life Styles Project

In The Meantime's MY LIFE, MY STYLE. Project is designed for all young black men between the ages of 18-29. Through this 3 session intervention we strive to give back to our community by educating, empowering, and encouraging younger brothers to make healthier choices, mentally, physically and spiritually. The Mylife sessions have become a safe space where younger men can express themselves fully and develop healthy bonds and relationships with self and those who attend. Each session calls for participants to look at themselves through their own lenses and to be supported by the collective group in adopting positive life affirming choices.

 

The Kick Back

The Kick Back is the name of In The Meantime’s Drop In space as well as an Open Social Discussion Group for Young Black gay, SGL, and bisexual men up to 29 years of age.

The ‘Kick Back’ is a Social Discussion group that meetings every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. Groups are facilitated by ITMT staff who are reflective of the age group. The topics are developed by the core members of the group and refreshments are served during each session.

The Kick Back Drop In Center is a welcoming open safe space designed for Black gay men. Although everyone is welcome, this space and programming is designed specifically for Black gay, sgl, and bisexual men. The Kick Back is the home of small dramatic performances, social activities, computer training, skills development, the Kick Back Social Discussion group, Project Elevate designed to educate and empower young Black gay men to become better educated and involved in civic engagement, ITMT411 and In The Meantime HELP Desk (Resource referral assistance program).

BRB/ Brothers Reaching Brothers Social Discussion Group

Brothers Reaching Brothers is a 10 year old Open Social discussion group for Black gay, SGL, and bisexual men of all ages. Over the years The BRB has hosted most of the Nations Black gay authors, celebrities, social activist, and much more. BRB continues to provide a safe and supportive space where men bond and develop friendships, and direct linkages to a multitude of resources. Every Tuesday night is different and engages men in the highest level.

In The Meantime’s resource referral desk is designed to link men to needed services in Los Angeles County. By calling our office you will be assisted in locating a needed resource based on our knowledge and listings of local government services to include those that are LGBT specific.
